iOS 27 Code Hints at iPhone with Dual Battery

New code found in the latest iOS 27 developer beta is being interpreted as a strong indication that Apple is preparing for an iPhone with a dual battery system. According to a report by Gizmochina on Tuesday, the clue was discovered within the Battery Health section of the Settings application. The software uses the plural form of battery in several text strings, a notable shift from the singular form consistently used for all existing iPhone models. The texts in the Battery Health menu indicating dual battery usage include phrases such as ‘the batteries in this iPhone are functioning as expected’ and a warning that ‘one of the batteries’ may not be a genuine Apple component. This discovery has intensified speculation that Apple is developing software support for a handset with two batteries, a configuration commonly employed in foldable phones to accommodate hinge design and weight distribution. Based on leaked information from Digital Chat Station, the rumoured iPhone Ultra is expected to feature two batteries with capacities of 1,921 mAh and 2,962 mAh, providing a total capacity of 4,883 mAh. This figure is slightly lower than previous rumours suggesting a capacity between 5,400 mAh and 5,800 mAh, but slightly larger than the 4,800 mAh battery rumoured for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. The iPhone Ultra is also rumoured to feature a 7.76-inch main display and a 5.49-inch outer screen. Its camera system is expected to include a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, with no telephoto lens due to internal space constraints. Additional clues in the iOS 27 code point to features for the iPhone Ultra, including variations in screen folding modes, support for multiple displays, and multitasking capabilities designed for a device with a larger screen.
