Ioniq 6 Electric Car Catches Fire After Hitting Separator, Causing Traffic in Slipi

A car fire triggered traffic congestion at the Tomang intersection, West Jakarta. The vehicle caught fire after striking a road separator.

“The object on fire was a Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car,” said Achmad Saiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, on Friday (11/9/2026).

Firefighters received information regarding the fire at 05:04 WIB. Personnel arrived at the scene and commenced firefighting operations at 05:18 WIB.

The car caught fire with significant flames after hitting the road barrier. The vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle accident after striking the TransJakarta busway separator.

“The suspected cause is a single-vehicle accident hitting the busway separator, which caused sparks that subsequently grew into a larger fire that consumed the car,” he stated.

A total of three water pump units and 15 firefighters were deployed to the scene. The firefighting operation was declared complete at 06:18 WIB.

“Regarding the chronology, at approximately 05:04 WIB, the driver of a Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car with licence plate B-18-YZK was travelling along Jalan Letjen S Parman. The driver lost control without realising it and struck the busway separator,” he added.

There were no casualties resulting from the fire. The driver managed to exit the vehicle after it began emitting sparks and smoke. Local residents then reported the incident to Jakarta Siaga 112 for follow-up by officers from the nearest fire station.

Traffic at the Tomang intersection, West Jakarta, was congested this morning due to the vehicle fire. Traffic from the direction of Slipi towards Tomang was observed to be sluggish as a result of the firefighting efforts, according to NTMC Polri call centre officer, Friska, when contacted on Friday (11/9) at 07:25 WIB.

Friska noted that the car fire was reported at 05:27 WIB, with the fire located on the arterial road. The vehicle has since been extinguished and is currently being evacuated by officials.

Officers reported that as of 07:25 WIB, traffic from Slipi towards Tomang remained congested due to the aftermath of the car fire suppression.
