Ojek passenger dies in accident

JAKARTA: A public bus plying Jl. Sudirman hit a motorcycle
taxi, or ojek, in the Dukuh Atas area of Central Jakarta on
Thursday, and the ojek passenger was killed.

The victim, identified as M. Ali Nur, got the ojek at
Bendungan Hilir, and was carrying a newly repaired television
set. According to ojek driver, Supri, the victim wanted to go to
Kebon Kacang, also in Central Jakarta.

The Mayasari Bakti bus hit the ojek in the rear, the two men
on the motorcycle were launched forward on to the pavement and
the bus skidded over Nur Ali.

The bus driver then fled the scene, while bystanders
apprehended the driver's assistant and took him to the City
Police headquarters. --JP

A bet ends up in fatal stabbing

JAKARTA: A friendly neighborhood bet ended up in a fatal
stabbing on Wednesday afternoon in Grogol, West Jakarta.

Ajuar Sanusi, 25, a resident of Tanggul Banjir Kanal in Grogol
won a bet against his neighbor Sugianto, 27 and collected his
winnings. Ajuar then refused a further bet, which apparently
enraged Sugianto to the point of murder.

Sugianto went home, got his dagger, found Ajuar and attacked
him.

Ajuar died on the way to Sumber Waras Hospital.

Sugianto is now in police detention. -- JP

City widens Jl. Raya Lenteng Agung

AKARTA: To prevent future traffic congestion on Jl. Raya
Lenteng Agung which connects Pasar Minggu and Depok, the South
Jakarta Public Works Agency plans to widen the road.

The two-lane road will have one additional lane by the end of
this month, said the head of the road construction unit at the
agency, Rahadi.

"Because of the construction, the food vendors along the road
will have to be evicted. The space belongs to the state, so they
are not eligible for any sort of compensation," Rahadi said. --JP
