State-owned enterprise (SOE) in the livestock sector, PT Berdikari, has begun discussions on the integrated chicken downstreaming (HAT) project, which is being prepared to strengthen the national food supply chain. The HAT programme is a priority project from President Prabowo Subianto through the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan). PT Berdikari’s steps began with the implementation of a forum group discussion (FGD) involving the government, academics, research bodies, and livestock practitioners. The forum was held in Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026). PT Berdikari’s President Director, Maryadi, stated that the company is opening up space for collaboration with academics and research institutions in designing the integrated chicken downstreaming project. “We are opening up collaborative innovations to create or design the Integrated Chicken Downstreaming project so that it can be realised as we all hope,” Maryadi said in a press release on Sunday (10/5/2026). According to him, cross-sector synergy is key to achieving national food self-sufficiency. “As a corporation, we are pleased to be able to help the community, especially smallholder farmers, and in the future, we can collaborate with all existing stakeholders,” he explained. The forum was attended by the Minister of Agriculture’s Expert Staff Ali Agus, Director of Livestock Breeding and Production at the Ministry of Agriculture Harry Suhada, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry at UGM Budi Guntoro, and Head of the Centre for Applied Zoology Research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Delicia Yunita Rahman, as well as academics and national livestock experts. This was acknowledged by the Presidium of the National Egg Producers Association (PINSAR Petelur Nasional), Yudianto Yosgiarso. He noted that national chicken egg production reaches around 18,000 tonnes or the equivalent of 280 million eggs per day. The high egg production is said not to be matched by sufficient market absorption, especially when public purchasing power weakens. Egg prices at the farm level have now dropped from around Rp 26,500 per kilogram to Rp 21,000 per kilogram. That figure is claimed to be below the operational costs of farmers.
