Investors waiting for new cabinet line-up
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign investors overseas are still waiting for the composition of the new cabinet ministers in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s next government, an observer said.
"Foreign investors will see first who are to be appointed ministers in the new cabinet of the SBY-Boediono`s new govornment," Fadhil Hasan of the the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF), said here on Monday.
However, the next government policy is unlikely to undergo major changes from the present government because the candidate elected in last week`s presidential elections is the incumbent one.
Besides, investors will also still look at the overall economic conditions, particularly the impact of the global financial crisis.
Indonesia`s overall economic conditions were still stagnant in the sense that there was neither positive, nor negative reactions, he said.
"A different situation will likely prevail if the Indonesian presidential elections took place in two rounds where investors would likely become more cautious," the INDEF executive director said.
Fadhil Hasan said that with the presidential election lasting for only one round, investors had shown positive reactions, though they were still waiting for the correct time to make their investment.
"They are waiting for the new government`s policy and new cabinet ministers," he said.
Presidential and vice presidential candidates Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono won a landslide victory in the July 8, 2009 presidential race, leaving their rivals, Megawati Soekarnoputri and Jusuf Kalla far behind.
Three presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs were competing in the election, namely former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate retired general Prabowo Subianto, incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono, and incumbent vice president M Jusuf Kalla and retired general Wiranto.
Several survey institutions, based on their quick counts, have given a landslide victory to the SBY-Boediono duo with a lead of over 60 percent, leaving the other two presidential aspirants far behind. (*)
