Investors Urge Authorities to Take 'Issues' in Indonesian Financial Market Seriously
Chief Executive Officer of Sucor Sekuritas, Bernadus Wijaya, noted that foreign capital outflows from the regular market have reached Rp 85 trillion year-to-date, reflecting investor anxiety towards the Indonesian market. Several sentiments have driven the exodus of foreign funds, including an MSCI reprimand earlier this year, downgrades to Indonesia’s debt outlook by FTSE and Moody’s, domestic policy uncertainty, and the impact of the Middle East conflict, which caused the rupiah to plunge to Rp 18,200 per US dollar. While a number of concerns continue to haunt investors, it is hoped that reforms undertaken by the stock exchange authority can maintain market confidence. Meanwhile, the government is expected to strengthen the exchange rate, promote programme efficiency as alluded to by the market, and provide investment climate certainty. Amid the current market uncertainty, Sucor Sekuritas CEO Bernadus Wijaya mentioned plans for six prospective issuers to list their shares on the Indonesian stock exchange through Initial Public Offerings in June 2026. These IPOs are expected to further enliven trading on the Indonesian stock market. In the bond market, rising yields are making it increasingly burdensome for issuers to offer bonds.
