Investors online with JSX

JAKARTA (JP): Foreign investors will soon be able to trade online through the Jakarta Stock Exchange following a deal on Wednesday between banking group DBS Group Holding Ltd. (DBS) and online financial service firm TD Waterhouse Groups Inc.

The two companies agreed to enter a joint venture for the establishment of a regional online financial service company that would include the Indonesian stock market.

"This means we can bring more foreign investors into Indonesia from the global and regional markets," said David Chang, president of local brokerage firm PT Vickers Ballas Tamara, a unit of the DBS Group.

As online trading here is not yet available, Vickers Ballas will execute the online trading orders from TD Waterhouse, Chang explained.

Although prospects of foreign investors trading at the JSX are dim, he said, in the long term the JSX will benefit from its greater exposure to global investors.

According to him, TD Waterhouse serves some 14 million retail and institutional investors worldwide. (bkm)
