Jakarta - The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) soared during trading on Tuesday (9/6/2026). At the close of the first session, the IHSG jumped 4.82%, or 257 points, to 5,599.74. During intraday trading, the index even briefly breached the 5% mark, reaching a high of 5,627. A total of 603 shares advanced, 118 declined, and 92 were unchanged. Transaction value reached Rp 13.79 trillion, involving 24.71 billion shares in 1.48 million trades. The IHSG had previously slumped more than 4% in three of the last four trading sessions. This week’s volatile movements indicate the domestic market is still seeking equilibrium after significant selling pressure in recent sessions. The sharp rebound at the opening technically and psychologically reflects bargain hunting rather than a complete shift in sentiment. The IHSG surge was primarily supported by large-capitalisation stocks. Shares of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) were the main driver, contributing 26.66 index points. PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) also pushed the index up by around 22 points, followed by Bank Mandiri (BMRI) with +18.77 points, Bank Central Asia (BBCA) with +18.73 points, and Astra International (ASII) with +9.97 points. This indicates the market is beginning to see valuations of several big-cap stocks as attractive after recent corrections. Gains in telecommunications, retail, and commodity stocks also helped market sentiment. TLKM shares strengthened after the company announced an attractive dividend yield. TLKM will distribute a cash dividend from the 2025 fiscal year’s net profit, equivalent to 123% of net profit, or Rp 21.9 trillion. Approximately Rp 4.2 trillion of the dividend will be taken from the company’s retained earnings from the previous year. The decision was approved by TLKM shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders held today, with the cash dividend amounting to Rp 221 per share. Based on yesterday’s closing price, TLKM offers a dividend yield of around 9%. The IHSG jump followed a meeting between the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, and the State-Owned Banks Association (Himbara), the National Private Banks Association (Perbanas), and other financial sector stakeholders at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta. Himbara Chairman Putrama Wahju Setiawan and Perbanas Chairman Hery Gunardi attended, alongside Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and the Head of the SOE Regulatory Body/COO of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria. Dasco stated the meeting was to coordinate and evaluate the current banking situation, and based on discussions, the developments were very good. External sentiment was also relatively more conducive than during the previous sell-off wave. The rupiah remains around Rp18,160 per US dollar, but its weakening has been limited, easing investor concerns. However, volatility is expected to remain high. This was reflected in the index’s movement, which surged over 1.5% at the opening before quickly correcting and then strengthening again. Bank Indonesia’s weekly Board of Governors meeting today decided to raise the BI-Rate by 25 bps to 5.50%, the Deposit Facility rate by 25 bps to 4.50%, and the Lending Facility rate by 25 bps to 6.25%. Governor Perry Warjiyo said the hike is a further step to strengthen rupiah exchange rate stabilisation against high global turmoil due to the Middle East war, and a pre-emptive measure to keep inflation within the government’s 2.5±1% target range for 2026 and 2027. He stressed the policy also aims to increase returns to attract foreign portfolio investment inflows into Indonesia.
