Investors Can Access Global Gold Company Shares via Sharia Mutual Funds
Gold and global commodities remain a preferred choice for diversification amidst changing interest rate expectations, exchange rate dynamics, and high energy prices heading into the fourth quarter of 2026. These conditions present opportunities for Indonesian investors to gain exposure to shares in global gold and commodity companies through Sharia-based investment instruments.
DBS CIO assesses that gold and several commodities still play a role in a diversified portfolio, although investors need to be increasingly selective following strong price increases. Long-term trends such as the demand for natural resources, energy transition, infrastructure development, and resource security are several factors supporting the sector.
In August 2026, global gold ETFs recorded inflows of US$18 billion, with total assets under management reaching US$615 billion. Demand from central banks and long-term investors is also considered to support the relevance of gold within diversification strategies.
Amidst these conditions, PT Bank DBS Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Batavia Prosperindo Aset Manajemen (Batavia), is offering the Batavia Gold Sharia Equity USD. This US dollar-denominated offshore Sharia mutual fund provides exposure to shares of global companies in the gold, silver, precious metals, and related commodities sectors.
Melfrida Gultom, Consumer Banking Director of Bank DBS Indonesia, stated that shares in the gold sector can be a diversification option for investors with an aggressive risk profile and a high tolerance for volatility.
“Global economic dynamics are driving investors to consider measured investment strategies. Shares in the gold sector are one of the assets that can be considered in the portfolio diversification of investors with an aggressive risk profile and high tolerance for volatility,” said Melfrida on Wednesday (30/09/2026).
Batavia Gold Sharia Equity USD holds a portfolio of approximately 56 global companies. Stock selection is conducted based on several fundamental aspects, including management quality, financial condition, growth trends, and risk management.
This instrument does not involve investing directly in physical gold, but rather provides exposure to the shares of companies operating in the gold and commodities sectors. The product is intended for medium to long-term investment, with a minimum initial purchase of US$10,000 through Bank DBS Indonesia.
Lilis Setiadi, President Director of Batavia Prosperindo Aset Manajemen, noted that global market dynamics require investors to look for opportunities across various asset classes and regions.
“Batavia Gold Sharia Equity USD provides an opportunity for investors to further explore the potential of the global gold and commodity sectors through related company shares, denominated in US dollars,” said Lilis.
Portfolio exposure includes companies in several sub-sectors, ranging from gold, silver, and precious metals to copper and mining. DBS CIO assesses that copper and aluminium have long-term growth potential, while commodities in general can play a role in diversification and protection against inflation.
Investors can access Batavia Gold Sharia Equity USD through the DBS digibank application. Bank DBS Indonesia acts as one of the selling agents, while Batavia serves as the investment manager overseeing the product.
Investment performance remains influenced by gold price movements, stock market conditions, global economic developments, and other factors affecting the companies within the portfolio. Therefore, the characteristics and risks of the product must still be aligned with the individual risk profile and investment objectives of each investor.
