Investment Outside Java Reaches Rp507.8 Trillion in H1 2026
Investment realised outside Java reached Rp507.8 trillion in the first half of 2026, higher than the Rp502.8 trillion recorded on Java. Investment outside Java accounted for 50.2 per cent of the national total, while Java contributed 49.8 per cent.
Data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) indicate that investment is becoming more evenly distributed across Indonesia. The difference in realised investment between the two regions was Rp5 trillion.
Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, said investment activity outside Java had developed significantly. According to him, the benefits of investment are no longer concentrated solely in major cities or on Java.
“North Maluku and Central Sulawesi, for example, made it into the top five investment destinations in Indonesia during the first half of 2026,” Nurul said, as reported by the RI Government Communications Agency (Bakom) on Monday (12 October 2026).
He explained that investment flowing into various regions had the potential to stimulate economic activity around projects. Its impact was not limited to the construction of production facilities, but also included demand for workers, transport, accommodation, food businesses and other supporting enterprises.
Nurul said these developments could create employment and business opportunities for local communities. Investment outside Java is therefore expected to expand opportunities for people to find work in their home regions.
“This is what we want to see from investment: not just capital coming in, but economic activity growing domestically. Investment arrives, jobs grow, and all Indonesians feel the economic benefits,” Nurul said.
