Investment Outside Java Reaches Rp 507.8 Trillion
The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) recorded a positive trend towards a more even distribution of investment across Indonesia in the first half of 2026.
Investment outside Java reached Rp 507.8 trillion, or 50.2 per cent of the total, exceeding the Rp 502.8 trillion, or 49.8 per cent, recorded on Java.
Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, stressed that the benefits of investment growth were no longer confined to major cities or concentrated on Java.
Investment activity has gathered significant momentum in various regions outside Java.
“North Maluku and Central Sulawesi, for example, were among Indonesia’s five leading investment destinations in the first half of 2026,” Nurul Ichwan said on Monday (12 October).
He said investment growth in the regions had broad multiplier effects for local communities.
Investment projects do more than build factories or production facilities; they also spur the development of new economic ecosystems nearby, including demand for workers, transport services and housing, as well as food businesses and other support for local economies.
The more balanced distribution of investment is expected to create opportunities for people across the regions to find better jobs in their home areas.
“This is what we want to see from investment. It is not only about capital coming in, but also about economic activity growing domestically. Investment arrives, jobs are created, and the economic benefits are felt by all Indonesians,” Nurul Ichwan concluded.
