Investment Ministry Holds Meeting on Intimidation of Foreign Investors in Cilegon
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) held a meeting with a number of stakeholders to discuss the case involving businesspeople in Cilegon, Banten. This followed the emergence of a video showing acts of intimidation against foreign investors by a number of local businesspeople. The incident is related to the construction of a national strategic project (PSN) belonging to PT Chandra Asri in Cilegon.
Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Todotua Pasaribu revealed that the meeting discussing the case was a direct instruction from President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani.
"This meeting was indeed initiated by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming because we received orders from President Prabowo and Minister Rosan, to facilitate a response to the incident that occurred in the Cilegon area," said Todotua at the BKPM Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday (14/5/2025).
He also expressed regret over the case. Based on the meeting held, the government will take follow-up action, with the individuals involved to be processed through legal channels if found guilty. This is being done to create a deterrent effect for businesspeople in Cilegon who have been engaging in extortion of projects.
The parties invited to the meeting included the Banten and Cilegon Regional Governments, the Banten Regional Police, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), and PT Chandra Asri Alkali.
Todotua assured that the government will continue to maintain a conducive investment climate, undisturbed by external factors. "The point is that going forward, we are creating a deterrent effect, particularly with regard to the investment climate in our country," he concluded regarding the actions of Cilegon businesspeople who extorted a trillion-rupiah project.
