Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani has established a special desk as a service centre to accelerate and attract greater investment interest in Batam City.

The establishment of the desk was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BKPM, the Batam City Government, and the Batam Free Trade Zone and Free Port Authority (KPBPB Batam) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Minister Rosan explained that through the desk, he would station BKPM officials in Batam to ensure the investment process in the region runs smoothly.

"This investment realisation enhancement desk at KPBPB Batam is intended to accelerate everything and strengthen investment services for those coming into Batam," he said.

He stated that the collaboration represents his office's commitment to attracting greater investment interest domestically, given that the capital investment target over the next five years reaches Rp13,032 trillion.

Meanwhile, Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad noted that in 2024, Batam's economic growth was recorded at 6.69 per cent, exceeding the national economic growth average of 5.03 per cent.

This growth reflects not only increased economic activity across various sectors, particularly manufacturing, trade, and zone support services, but is also closely linked to ongoing efforts to improve regional governance.

Furthermore, Batam's investment realisation in the same year reached Rp42.26 trillion, representing a 31.17 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This rise contributed to the creation of thousands of new jobs across various fields. The increase in investment also reflects business confidence in Batam's investment climate.

"The MoU we have signed together opens the door for further investment growth in Batam City, as some time ago Batam experienced growth reaching as high as 11 per cent," he said.
