Investment certainty deemed key factor in Andaman gas development

Investment certainty is key to accelerating the development of the South Andaman gas field. Investment certainty is considered an important factor in speeding up the development of the Tangkulo Gas Field in the South Andaman Working Area, Aceh, so that the resource discovery can immediately provide added value for the regional economy while strengthening the national energy supply. Chairman of the Indonesia Centre for Renewable Energy Studies (ICRES) Surya Darma stated that gas field development requires large-scale, long-term investment, making policy certainty one of the main considerations for investors in realising the project. “Investors who have already spent very large sums must be given certainty so that trust in Indonesia is maintained,” Surya Darma said in Banda Aceh on Monday. The statement was made during a seminar entitled “Building Opportunities Amidst the Polemic of South Andaman Block Development” organised by the Aceh Student Energy Council (DEM). According to Surya, certainty over the South Andaman development is not only related to investor interests but also determines how quickly the gas reserves can be monetised and deliver economic impact through energy supply, industrial activity, follow-on investment, and the creation of economic activity in Aceh.
