Chairman of the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT), Soerjanto Tjahjono, has explained that the investigation process into the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station is still ongoing. Soerjanto stated that KNKT still has much data to collect.

“So we are still in the stage of gathering data from the field and there are still several tests we need to conduct on the signalling, the tracks, and how the communication was. We are collecting the data, there is still a lot of data to gather and there are still several people we need to interview,” said Soerjanto at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2025).

The data in question includes checks on surveillance cameras or CCTV on the train up to the contents of the train’s ‘black box’. The results of tracing that data will later be further confirmed through statements from the relevant parties.

“Depending on… well, on the train there is CCTV, there is data like the black box, and then depending on the evaluation results from that data, whether we need to request confirmation or further statements from people related to the matter,” he said.

KNKT cannot determine when the deadline for the investigation into the Bekasi train accident will be completed. This is because there is still data that cannot be accessed.

“We cannot determine it yet because there is still data that we cannot open, we haven’t had the chance to open it yet,” he revealed.

This accident case has escalated to the investigation stage after the discovery of criminal elements in the case review conducted. The police are still carrying out a series of deepenings.

As is known, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4). The incident resulted in 16 people dead and 90 others injured.

At the time of the accident, a Green SM taxi was temporarily stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to a short circuit problem, then hit by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta. The KRL involved in the accident with the taxi then stopped in the middle of the tracks.
