Investigation into Hajj Quota Case Continues, KPK Summons Khalid Basalamah Again
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has scheduled a follow-up examination of the head of Uhud Tour as a Penyelenggara Ibadah Haji Khusus (PIHK), Ustaz Khalid Basalamah (KB), on Thursday (23/4/2026). The summons relates to the investigation into the alleged corruption case concerning hajj quotas.
“In the continuation of the hajj quota investigation, it is true that today the investigators have scheduled (the summons) for Mr KB, one of the PIHK parties,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Thursday (23/4/2026).
The KPK explained that the summons for Khalid is in his capacity as a witness. In this examination, Khalid will be questioned regarding the mechanisms for filling special hajj quotas from additional hajj quotas by PIHK parties.
“This is part of the examinations of travel bureau or PIHK parties that are indeed needed by the investigators to further explore how the buying and selling or filling of hajj worship quotas is carried out by those PIHK parties,” said Budi.
Nevertheless, Budi is still checking confirmation of Khalid’s attendance with the investigators. However, the KPK is optimistic that Khalid will be cooperative in complying with the summons.
“We are confident that the witness will certainly be cooperative in attending the investigators’ summons and later providing the necessary testimony,” said Budi.
It is recorded that Khalid Basalamah was previously examined by the KPK in June and September 2025. Khalid has denied involvement in the hajj quota case.
In this case, the KPK has previously named Yaqut as a suspect along with former Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs, Isfan Abidal Aziz (IAA) alias Gus Alex. Yaqut is charged with violating Article 2 paragraph (1) and or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
In the development of this case, the KPK has named two new suspects from the private sector, namely Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba as the general chairman of the Kesatuan Tour Travel Haji Umrah Republik Indonesia (Kesthuri). Both are suspected of playing a role in arranging the distribution and filling of additional hajj quotas, including providing kickbacks to parties in the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
