Inul to go ahead with KL concert
SURAKARTA: Despite the acute political friction between Malaysia
and Indonesia, dangdut singer/dancer Inul Daratista announced to
the public on Friday that she would go on with her scehduled show
in Kuala Lumpur.
The planned concert is on May 1 and it will be Inul's first
show in Malaysia after she was banned by Malaysian authorities in
2003.
"Permits and other documents to hold the concert are all ready
so we just have to start packing and leave for Kuala Lumpur,"
Inul said in Surakarta before performing at the Surakarta Hailai
club.
"In 2003, I was banned, but now they have lifted the ban, so I
will make the use of this opportunity to perform the best I can.
I hope my fans will enjoy the concert," Inul said as quoted by
Antara.
Inul has traveled a rocky road to reach stardom following a
wave of brouhaha on her gyrating hip shakes.
"My Malaysian fans only know about me by my goyang ngebor
(drilling dance) with my naval showing, they don't know if I can
truly sing and dance without that," said Inul whose latest album,
Untukmu (For You), is to be launched soon.
Because of the prolonged controversy, Inul called off her
overseas concerts in 2003 including those in Malaysia and Brunei,
both predominantly Muslim countries. --JP
