Introducing Token-as-a-Service for Efficient AI Utilisation
The increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors is driving demand for managing access, quotas, and costs associated with the technology. For developers, companies, and government institutions, regulating token usage has become an important aspect of ensuring AI services are utilised efficiently and transparently.
This need has prompted PT Kencana Satu Nuswapada (Prominence), a national technology digital hub, to introduce Pemuda.ai through a soft launch on 18 August 2026. The launch, held ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, introduced a Token-as-a-Service (TaaS) model to help manage AI token usage in Indonesia.
Through this service, developers, corporations or enterprises, the public sector, and government can regulate AI token quotas while optimising cost efficiency. The model is also designed to simplify transactions and administration of AI service usage more transparently.
Tokens are one component in the use of various generative AI models. Token-based systems allow service usage to be adjusted according to processing needs. However, as AI usage within organisations increases, token management is necessary so that resource utilisation and costs can be controlled.
Director & Founder of Prominence Edi Sugianto said the development of Pemuda.ai is part of an effort to bring together corporate capabilities with national technology development needs.
“As a digital hub, we are committed to connecting corporate capabilities with the technology independence movement. Through the soft launch of Pemuda.ai and the Token-as-a-Service offering, we are here to answer the needs of developers and enterprises in managing the AI ecosystem efficiently in Indonesia,” said Edi, quoted on Wednesday (19/8).
The soft launch of Pemuda.ai was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Prominence and Onno Center, a technology development and literacy centre led by information technology expert Onno W. Purbo.
The collaboration is directed at developing various use cases and AI innovations that can be applied according to the needs of society and industry. The cooperation covers not only the provision of technology services but also research, education, and implementation of strategic AI-based solutions.
Founder of Onno Center Onno W. Purbo said the development of token access and governance is an important part of promoting open technology independence in Indonesia.
“This initiative aligns with our mission at Onno Center to continue promoting open technology independence. Pemuda.ai provides token access and governance that is greatly needed by communities and industries in Indonesia,” said Onno.
The development of this service is taking place amid the strengthening of the national AI ecosystem. The government is encouraging AI utilisation that is not only innovative but also safe, ethical, inclusive, and responsible.
Strengthening national capabilities, data governance, digital talent development, research and innovation, and AI utilisation across various sectors are part of efforts to build this ecosystem.
In the context of technology independence, Indonesia also needs to strengthen several supporting components, from local AI models and computing infrastructure to digital talent. The development of these components is part of efforts towards sovereign AI amid increasing demand for national AI capacity.
National telecommunications figure Rudolf Nainggolan assessed that AI developments require telecommunications industry players and enterprises to move faster in preparing infrastructure and supporting ecosystems.
“The telecommunications and enterprise world in Indonesia must move quickly to embrace the era of artificial intelligence. Platforms like Pemuda.ai, supported by the Prominence ecosystem, will become a very strong foundation for national digital independence and strengthening,” said Rudolf.
After the soft launch phase, the development of Pemuda.ai will continue towards a nationwide grand launch scheduled for 28 October 2026, coinciding with Youth Pledge Day.
