Introducing the Circular Economy through Jakarta Ecotourism
Efforts to build young people’s concern for the environment are no longer confined to the classroom. The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Department (Disparekraf) has provided direct learning experiences in nature through the Jakarta Ecotourism Festival 2026, inviting dozens of vocational school (SMK) students, communities and environmental activists to explore various ecotourism areas across Jakarta in a one-day tour programme.
The 35 participants were introduced to sustainable tourism practices, circular economy-based waste management, and the importance of preserving urban ecosystems.
Through an interactive approach, the activity is expected to foster awareness that the capital’s green spaces are not merely places for recreation, but also laboratories for environmental learning.
The journey began at the Bee Tourism Park in East Jakarta. Here, participants learned about the role of bees in maintaining ecosystem balance, discovered various bee cultivation products, and watched a honey-harvesting simulation.
The learning atmosphere was packaged in an enjoyable way. In addition to receiving explanations from the site managers, participants took part in various interactive games testing their environmental knowledge.
From early morning, the students looked enthusiastic in following the entire series of activities, wearing white T-shirts and caps bearing the words ‘Jakarta Ecotourism Festival 2026’.
After visiting the Bee Tourism Park, the group continued their journey to the Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA) Payung Tunas Teratai in East Jakarta.
At the roughly three-hectare green area, participants received education on the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and horticultural crops.
Through this activity, participants were introduced to the planting and maintenance processes of various types of plants, while also understanding the importance of green spaces as part of environmental and food resilience in urban areas.
The final destination was the Cilangkap Agro-Edu Tourism area, also known as the Cilangkap Seedling Garden, in East Jakarta. This area serves as an open learning space combining recreation, conservation and agricultural education in one integrated complex.
At the site, participants learned directly about farming practices, discovered biodiversity, and understood the importance of environmental preservation through sustainable agricultural activities.
Beyond enjoying the still-lush natural surroundings in the middle of an urban area, participants were invited to see how the agro-educational tourism concept can serve as an educational medium close to people’s everyday lives.
Through the Jakarta Ecotourism Festival 2026, Disparekraf DKI Jakarta seeks to introduce the concept of ecotourism as part of a sustainable lifestyle.
The festival not only provides an educational tourism experience, but also strengthens young people’s understanding of waste management, the circular economy, and the importance of environmental conservation. With a learning approach combining direct experience and interactive activities, the programme is expected to shape a generation that is more environmentally conscious while supporting the realisation of a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Jakarta.
