Jakarta — Stellantis and Indomobil have signed a cooperation agreement to market Leapmotor in Indonesia. However, the precise launch date for the Chinese electric vehicle brand remains unknown.

Tan Kim Piauw, Chief Executive Officer of PT Indomobil National Distributor, stated that Leapmotor is an automotive brand operating under the Stellantis banner.

“Stellantis itself is one of the world’s largest automotive groups at present. There are various brands under Stellantis,” said Tan.

Tan added that Leapmotor was first established in 2015 and focuses on research and development. “Leapmotor’s vision is to become one of the world’s leading intelligent EV players. Leapmotor is very strong in research and development,” he said.

Tan noted that various main vehicle components are produced and developed in-house by Leapmotor, including both hardware and software. The company has been rapidly accepted in both the domestic Chinese market and the global market.

“By 2025, Leapmotor had sold 596,555 units. In 2025, Leapmotor was recognised as one of the fastest-growing Chinese EV brands among other Chinese vehicle manufacturers,” said Tan.

“Approximately 65 per cent of Leapmotor vehicle costs are already handled in-house. This is one of the factors that distinguishes Leapmotor from many other new energy vehicle companies in China,” said Tan.

Tan added that Leapmotor already has 1,850 sales and service points spread across Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America.
