Int'l stadium planned for Cikampek

JAKARTA: Plans have been announced to build a world-class sports stadium at the end of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, which connects the capital to West Java.

The West Java administration has earmarked a site in Cikopo, Purwakarta, for the project.

"This site enjoys a better location compared to the other option in Padalarang, Bandung, because of its proximity to both Jakarta and Bandung, the capital of West Java," said councillor Juhara.

The vacant site, extended to hundreds of hectares, was originally set aside for the construction of a car factory.

Juhara added that the nearby Jatiluhur dam and reservoir, which is used as the national training site for rowing, had helped Cikopo win the project. -- Antara
