JAKARTA: In a bid to boost the quality of Islamic education
here, the King Khalid Islamic College (KKIC) in Melbourne,
Australia will open a school in Indonesia next year.
A business consultant of KKIC, Rustika Thamrin Karim, said on
Monday the school offered the International Baccalaureate (IB)
degree in awareness of the fact that the education system in
Indonesia could not meet the rapid demand for better quality
Islamic education.
"The IB standard is meant to help school graduates pursue
higher education," Rustika said.
IB is an international certificate issued by the International
Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and recognized
by more than 100 countries, providing accessibility to noted
universities including the universities of Harvard, Stanford,
Oxford and London School of Economics.
In connection with the plan, a seminar on international
Islamic schools and an education exhibition will be held on
Thursday at Sahid Jaya Hotel, Central Jakarta. Educationist Arief
Rachman, teacher at Gontor modern Islamic boarding school
Abdullah Syukri and KKIC director Salah Salman will speak in the
forum. -- JP
