Interpreting the Reshuffle: Prabowo Deemed to Follow the Embracing School for Stability

JAKARTA - Political analyst from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Adi Prayitno, believes that President Prabowo has a political understanding that embraces inclusivity for the sake of national stability. This is reflected in the cabinet reshuffle.

“This is his school (Prabowo’s), the school of stability, sir. The school of embracing,” said Adi in the Gaspol Kompas.com YouTube programme on Friday (1/5/2026).

Adi stated that it is difficult to imagine Prabowo keeping his distance from major national figures, including Jokowi.

According to him, Prabowo’s political character prioritises stability and balance by embracing various forces.

“The important thing for the president is to keep the pendulum steady. All these forces are invited to cooperate,” he continued.

However, those names survived the latest cabinet reshuffle.

Adi opines that it would be difficult to imagine Prabowo distancing himself from Jokowi, including from former presidents like Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

He assesses that Prabowo’s step in retaining several figures in the cabinet cannot simply be read as a factor of closeness to Jokowi.

According to him, the reshuffle decision is more based on the president’s preferences regarding performance and governmental needs.

“I think Mr Prabowo has his own preferences on how to replace people affiliated with any political forces,” he revealed in this talk show moderated by Tatang Guritno and Fitria Chusna Farisa.

Several figures from various political backgrounds, including those close to certain parties, can still be replaced if deemed not to meet performance standards.

According to him, Prabowo is striving to maintain good relations with all elements of political forces to ensure that governmental stability remains intact.

Adi assesses that the public perception viewing Prabowo’s closeness to one figure as a sign of distancing from another is a misguided viewpoint.

“So, dear viewers, if you hope that Mr Prabowo will keep his distance from Mr Jokowi, it’s quite difficult. If you want Mr Prabowo to keep his distance from SBY and Mega, it’s quite difficult, sir. Because everyone is embraced and invited to cooperate. So get ready, you might be disappointed,” Adi stated.

He added that this approach is part of a strategy to maintain power consolidation so that it remains strong and supported by various political groups.
