Interpol Issues Red Notice for Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry in Sexual Abuse Case

The Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Divhubinter) has revealed that Interpol has issued a red notice for Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry, a suspect in an alleged sexual abuse case. Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, Head of Divhubinter, confirmed that the red notice was issued on 9 July 2026, with the reference number A/10808/7-2026. The issuance of the Interpol red notice was based on a request submitted by Divhubinter. Al Misry is an Indonesian citizen through naturalisation. According to the official Interpol website, the suspect is listed under the first name Ahmad Abdelwakil Elsayed Mohamed and the family name Ahmed. His identity details record him as being born in Kalyubiya, Egypt, on 1 January 1987, and holding Indonesian citizenship. He is wanted for criminal offences involving obscene acts and physical sexual abuse. The Directorate of Crimes against Women and Children and Human Trafficking at the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police had previously named Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry as a suspect in the alleged sexual abuse case. He was reported to the police in November 2025 over allegations of sexually abusing five male students. A witness, Ustadz Abi Makki, stated that Al Misry had allegedly committed abuse against his students in 2021. At that time, the victims, along with teachers and religious leaders, conducted a clarification meeting (tabayyun), after which Al Misry apologised and promised not to repeat the alleged same-sex sexual abuse. However, instead of repenting, teachers received confessions from students in 2025 that Al Misry had committed similar acts again, leading to the police report being filed with Bareskrim.
