Jakarta – Digital infrastructure firm PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), known as SURGE, through its subsidiary PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama (Telemedia), has launched the Internet Rakyat (IRA) service in Regional-1 areas covering Java, Maluku, and Papua.

Telemedia’s President Director and SURGE Director Shannedy Ong said the launch of IRA is part of the company’s strategy to accelerate equitable national digital access through the development and utilisation of efficient, scalable, and affordable telecommunications infrastructure for Indonesian citizens.

“This initiative aligns with our vision to support national digital transformation while narrowing the fixed broadband internet access gap across various regions in Indonesia,” Ong stated on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

Amid rising digital connectivity needs, Indonesia still faces challenges with relatively high fixed broadband internet costs compared to several ASEAN countries, while service quality and speed remain uneven. These conditions are a primary driver for IRA’s creation as a fixed broadband solution prioritising accessibility, service quality, and affordability.

“With over 200 million people in Java, Maluku, and Papua, there remains significant growth potential for quality and affordable fixed broadband internet services, which is a key focus for IRA’s development,” he added.

Through IRA, SURGE and Telemedia offer high-speed fixed broadband internet up to 100 Mbps at an affordable price of Rp 100,000. The aim is to expand public access to education, digital economy, public services, entertainment, and new opportunities in the digital era.

“IRA is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to delivering quality fixed broadband internet for all Indonesians,” Ong said.

“We believe internet access is no longer a luxury but a basic necessity that must be accessible to all. By launching IRA in Java, Maluku, and Papua, we aim to bridge the digital divide and open more opportunities for communities to participate in the digital economy,” he added.
