Internet kiosk owners fear raids
SURABAYA: Fearing raids by the East Java Police, many owners of Internet kiosks in Surabaya have started to plan to change their software from Microsoft to Linux.
"If the police conducted raids, it would definitely affect the Internet kiosk owners, as well as offices and individuals since most of them use pirated software," Eddy, an Internet kiosk owner in Surabaya, said on Saturday.
He said he was currently learning to use the Linux operating system to replace the Microsoft system he currently used.
In Surabaya, there are around 150 Internet businesses officially listed while dozens more are not listed, conducting their business in houses without a sign but with regular customers. -- Antara
