Internet access at temporary housing in Sekumur to be upgraded

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will improve internet access facilities at the temporary housing (huntara) in Kampung Sekumur, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, to support the learning activities of children affected by the disaster during the recovery period.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria, during a visit to the Kagama Peduli Huntara in Kampung Sekumur on Sunday (5/7), said the government is not only ensuring that communication continues to function in disaster-affected areas but also providing connectivity that directly benefits the community.

“We see the need to strengthen the quality of telecommunication services. We will likely coordinate with the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of Komdigi to add several internet access points in this area,” he said in a ministry press release confirmed on Monday.

“Later, the internet access points can be used by our children staying in the huntara to help with their learning activities,” Nezar added.

He emphasised that improving connectivity in disaster-affected areas is part of the government’s effort to ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are felt concretely by all citizens, including those living in temporary shelters. “With improved connectivity, we want to create meaningful connectivity,” he said.

During the working visit to Kampung Sekumur, Nezar Patria, accompanied by the Rector of Gadjah Mada University, Kagama administrators, and representatives of the local government, handed over 26 temporary housing units built through the Kagama Peduli programme for residents affected by the floods.
