International-Standard Wall Climbing Facility to be Built in Buleleng

An international-standard wall climbing facility is set to be constructed in Buleleng, Bali. The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, has selected Buleleng as the location for this development as part of an initiative to expand sport tourism in the northernmost regency of the island.

The construction project has entered the preparatory stage, with initial field surveys conducted at the Taman Asri Banyuasely area in Buleleng on Sunday (2/8/2026). The findings from these surveys will serve as the basis for determining the final construction site, with realisation targeted for 2027.

Putu Yudi Atmika, Chairman of the Bali Provincial Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), stated that the development serves as an appreciation for the achievements of Buleleng-born athlete Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, who has represented Indonesia, Bali, and Buleleng in various international arenas. Her success has provided the motivation to establish international-standard training facilities in Bali.

Yudi noted that while the climbing wall was initially planned for Badung or Denpasar, Governor Koster requested that sport tourism be developed in Buleleng, prompting the FPTI Bali Provincial Board to survey several potential locations. He assessed that Buleleng possesses natural characteristics, such as hills and terraced terrain, that support a world-class climbing venue, alongside its proximity to existing tourist areas.
