International Expansion: Pegadaian Officially Launches in Timor Leste
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - To mark its 125th anniversary, PT Pegadaian has made history in its business journey by opening its first overseas branch in Dili, Timor Leste. The opening of this new branch took place on Monday (30/3/2026) and was officiated directly by the President Director of PT Pegadaian, Damar Latri Setiawan, accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of PT Pegadaian, AM Putranto, and the Director of Network & Operations of PT Pegadaian, Eka Pebriansyah.
The inauguration event was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Timor Leste, Mariano Assanami Sabino Lopes, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Timor Leste, Okto Dorinus Manik, SEVP Ultra Micro Business BRI, Muhammad Candra Utama, as well as representatives from other Indonesian SOEs based in Timor Leste.
The expansion in Timor Leste marks a strategic step and Pegadaian’s position as a financial services company at the international level. The President Director of PT Pegadaian, Damar Latri Setiawan, stated that Pegadaian’s presence in Timor Leste is not merely business expansion, but also the realisation of a commitment to provide inclusive and trusted financial solutions for the people of Timor Leste.
“The presence of Pegadaian on Timorese soil is a manifestation of the spirit of collaboration to grow together. We see the geographical and historical closeness as a strong foundation for building long-term partnerships. We want to bring our 125 years of experience in supporting MSMEs in Indonesia to empower local business actors here,” said Damar in an official statement, written on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
As part of the Ultra Micro (UMi) Holding, Pegadaian’s expansion is fully supported by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI), which has been present in Timor Leste since 2017. The synergy between the two companies is expected to strengthen the financial services ecosystem, particularly for the ultra micro segment and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Timor Leste.
Together with BRI, Pegadaian will complement existing financial services, shorten the distance to access financing, and increase financial literacy among the community.
“Pegadaian will provide easier access to financing so that business actors in Timor Leste have capital to grow and develop. One of the programmes we offer is Gadai Peduli or Fee-Free Pawn Loan, this programme is fee-free for two months with a maximum loan of US$100, during April 2026,” revealed Damar.
Furthermore, Pegadaian’s presence in Timor Leste will focus on providing fast and easy financial solutions, which for over a century has been the company’s main strength in the homeland.
