The International Driving Permit (IDP) is a crucial document for individuals wishing to drive abroad. The document serves as a complement to the national driving licence, enabling drivers to legally operate vehicles in 92 countries that have adhered to, recognised, signed, and ratified the 1968 Vienna Convention. Functionally, the IDP is an internationally valid permit provided the applicant holds a valid national driving licence. AKBP Prianggo Malau, Sub-director of Regident at the Central Java Regional Police Traffic Department, stated that the issuance fees remain in line with government regulations and have not changed. The cost for a new IDP is Rp250,000, while renewal costs Rp225,000. The IDP is valid for three years from the date of issue and can be renewed before expiry. Applications can now be submitted online, with required documents uploaded in JPG or JPEG format, not exceeding 500 KB. Required documents include a recent photo, KTP (Indonesian identity card), KITAP for foreign nationals, a valid passport, and a valid national driving licence. Additionally, applicants must provide a handwritten signature on white paper using black ink and the previous IDP for renewal applications. It should be noted that all physical document proofs can be uploaded as scanned copies or photographs on HVS paper. If submitted data is incomplete or non-compliant, the IDP application may be rejected. Paid fees will be refunded with an administrative deduction as per regulations. Therefore, applicants are advised to ensure all uploaded documents and data are accurate to ensure a smooth issuance process.
