International Cycling History Conference 2026 Held in Klaten
Klaten Regency is proud to be entrusted as the host of The 35th International Cycling History Conference (ICHC) 2026. The international cycling history conference this year is held at the Pendapa of Klaten Regency.
The ICHC 2026 event in Klaten, on Wednesday (20 May), was attended by Dutch Ambassador His Excellency Marc Gerritsen, German Ambassador His Excellency Ralf Beste, Yusuf Nugroho from the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, the Central Java regional secretary, Sumarno, and Amalinda Savirasi from Gadjah Mada University.
The ICHC event is a prestigious academic forum that forms part of the Klaten International Cycling Festival (KLIC Fest) activities from 17-24 May 2026, centred in Klaten Regency including the Prambanan area.
The Klaten Regent, His Honour Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, in his address first greeted all participants and delegates of ICHC 2026 from around the world. Their presence is an honour for Klaten Regency.
This year, Indonesia was entrusted to host the ICHC, and Klaten Regency was chosen as the venue. This is not merely an honour, but also proof that Klaten possesses value, spirit, and appeal to the international community.
“We are proud that, for the first time, more than 40 countries will be represented at ICHC,” he said. “This is extraordinary and shows that cycling is not just a mode of transport, but also a symbol of friendship, history, sustainability, and humanity across nations.”
According to Hamenang, cycling sport and culture amid global challenges today can be a universal language that unites differences. Through the ICHC forum, we not only discuss the history of bicycles but also civilisation, the environment, health, tourism, and a future of world mobility that is more environmentally friendly.
It should be noted that for the first time, the ICHC conference and KLIC Fest in Klaten will be held over eight full days. This demonstrates the enthusiasm, dedication, and seriousness of all parties in building an international event.
“For eight days, participants will not only attend the scientific conference but also enjoy Klaten’s community life, explore cultural villages, sample local cuisine, witness local traditions, and experience the hospitality of the people,” he explained.
On this occasion, the Klaten Regent hopes that the ICHC and KLIC Fest 2026 will leave lasting memories for participants to take home to their respective countries, while also introducing Klaten to the world as an open, safe, comfortable, and culturally rich region.
