Interior Ministry Instruction: All Regional Heads on Alert During 14-28 March Period
Interior Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian has instructed all regional heads and deputy regional heads to remain on alert and stay in their respective regions during the period from one week before to one week after Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijra.
The instruction was conveyed through Interior Ministry Circular Letter (SE) No. 000.2.3/1171/SJ dated 8 March 2026 regarding the postponement of foreign travel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period. The circular was addressed to all governors and regents and mayors. In the circular, regional heads and deputy regional heads were requested to postpone foreign travel from 14 to 28 March 2026.
“Except for activities that are highly essential and implemented upon presidential directive or for medical treatment purposes,” Tito said in his statement in Jakarta on Monday (9/3).
Tito explained that the policy was adopted to ensure local governments remain focused on implementing several strategic agendas before and during the Eid holiday period.
Several strategic measures requested from regional heads include, firstly, anticipating potential increases in security and safety risks during the Eid holiday and strengthening coordination with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda).
Secondly, enhancing preparedness to support the smooth operation of Eid homecoming traffic. Thirdly, monitoring and controlling regional inflation. Fourthly, ensuring readiness for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijra.
Tito emphasised that the policy aims to ensure regional heads remain in their respective regions so they can respond quickly to various community needs during the Eid momentum.
“Regarding recommendations for official foreign travel (PDLN) or permits for foreign travel for important reasons that have already been issued for the said departure date, cancellation or postponement/rescheduling of activities should be carried out,” he said.
The circular was also copied to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, the State Secretary Minister, the Foreign Minister, and the Immigration and Convict Supervision Minister.
