Interior Minister Tito Says WFH One Day Per Week Proposal Awaits Prabowo's Directive
Interior Minister Tito Karnavian stated that the proposal for work from home (WFH) one day per week for civil servants (ASN) and private sector workers is now awaiting directives from President Prabowo Subianto.
The relevant ministers, Tito said, have already held meetings to refine the policy on WFH one day per week.
“Once there is direction from the President, it will be officially announced. Just be patient,” Tito told reporters on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
Tito explained that he has no issue with the one-day-per-week WFH policy. He noted that the previous government had also implemented a similar work system during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m fine with it. I’m sure it won’t be a problem. Because this isn’t our first experience,” he said.
“This was during the COVID-19 era when WFH was even implemented with only 25% working from the office. The Interior Ministry managed with 25% WFO, and it still ran. So, it’s not something new, but we have experience,” Tito added.
Previously reported, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto conveyed that to streamline the budget, the government will implement a work-from-home (WFH) policy to be applied one day per week.
After a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Airlangga explained that the budget efficiency is a response to the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.
“With high oil prices, efficiency in work time is needed. Flexibility for work from home will be opened, one day in five working days,” said Airlangga on Thursday, 19 March 2026.
Regarding the technicalities, Airlangga said that it will be studied further. Besides for ASN, Airlangga hopes that private companies will also implement the policy.
“The technicalities will be prepared. It is hoped that not only ASN, but also private sector and local governments (will implement it),” Airlangga stated.
If the implementation concept is mature, Airlangga promised to inform the public soon.
