Tomohon, VIVA – Interior Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian continues to ensure that the 3 Million Houses Programme for low-income communities (MBR), one of President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship initiatives, runs across all regions. One such effort involves directly reviewing the people’s housing programme in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi (Sulut), on Thursday evening (9/4/2026). The Interior Minister conducted the review alongside the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait and the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti. The review site was the Subsidised Terrace Houses at Grazia Residence 2 Tomohon. In a solemn atmosphere, the Interior Minister and his entourage held direct dialogues with the residents and owners of the housing. It is known that the housing owner is national badminton athlete Greysia Polii. “We know that this housing programme is one of Mr President’s flagship programmes. This is a priority programme,” said the Interior Minister during the informal dialogue. The Interior Minister stated that his office, together with the PKP Minister, has toured several regions to socialise the three million houses programme. He hopes that similar steps can also be followed by local governments (Pemda) to support the programme’s implementation. From a regulatory perspective, the Interior Minister explained that the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has issued rules requiring local governments to waive building permit approvals (PBG) and land and building acquisition duties (BPHTB) for low-income communities (MBR). “It used to be called IMB, Building Erection Permit, now it’s PBG, we’ve agreed and signed the rules with Mr Ara [on PBG and BPHTB for MBR], we’ve also zeroed that out,” he said. These rules are expected to ease the provision of housing for MBR as well as for developers. The Interior Minister added that regions need to help succeed the programme’s implementation through permit facilitation at Public Service Malls (MPP). Thus, more communities will be encouraged to own decent housing. On the other hand, the Interior Minister believes that implementing this housing programme will provide a multiplier effect on the regional economy. This is because actors in that sector will be driven by the economic impact generated. In addition, indirectly, it will also spur an increase in Regional Original Income (PAD).
