JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Interior Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian stated that 38 out of 52 districts and cities affected by the Sumatra disaster have already returned to normal. As the Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, he said that the overall post-disaster recovery in Sumatra has reached 73 per cent. “In terms of functionality, based on the number of regions—districts and cities—from the 52 districts and cities, 38 are already normal. That means 73 per cent of the regions,” Tito said when met at his residence in the Senayan area, Jakarta, on Monday (23/3/2026). In the road infrastructure sector, Tito mentioned that 100 per cent of national roads are already functional, although some are not yet permanent. Although some roads are not yet permanent, according to him, national roads in the three Sumatra provinces can already be traversed by small to medium-sized vehicles. “National roads 100 per cent, regional roads 95 per cent functional. National bridges 100 per cent, regional bridges 67 per cent,” he said. Furthermore, provincial, district/city, and sub-district level government offices have almost all been restored. Only three village offices in Central Aceh, North Aceh, and Aceh Tamiang still need special attention. “For those in Aceh, there are only villages, several village offices in Central Aceh, North Aceh, and Aceh Tamiang. Village offices that are damaged or destroyed, there are several,” he continued. “Electricity is all on, except in Central Aceh where there are five villages here, but they have generators because there was a complete landslide, it’s impossible to build poles as well, can’t, complete landslide and the river is wide,” Tito added. On that occasion, Tito also presented data on the distribution of regions that are already normal, nearing normal, and needing special attention. In Aceh, according to him, there are 18 out of 23 affected districts and cities. However, 10 of them are already normal.
