JAKARTA – Interior Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has urged regional governments (Pemda) in the disaster-affected areas of Sumatra to accelerate the data collection for permanent housing (huntap) along with its classification.

As the Head of the Task Force (Kasatgas) for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, the Minister stated that regional governments have been given a one-week deadline to complete the accurate data collection and classification of huntap.

“I gave a deadline until next Wednesday. Meanwhile, we are doing this in parallel with BPS going down, BNPB also going down, and from this Satgas (PRR), there is also a team going down to these three provinces,” Tito said in a press statement on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Tito also requested governors, regents, and mayors to participate in the data collection to speed up the huntap construction process.

“Based on preliminary data, the proposed number of huntap constructions in the three affected provinces reaches 39,021 units,” Tito said.

The breakdown is as follows: Aceh with 28,876 units, North Sumatra with 7,321 units, and West Sumatra with 2,824 units.

However, this data will still be verified by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) before the construction execution takes place.

“From the 39,000, it will also be verified by BPS. Whether it’s true, heavily damaged/lost, whether it’s feasible, and so on. Only then will BNPB and the Minister of PKP carry out the execution,” he explained.

In addition, there is support for huntap construction from various parties, including the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, the National Police (Polri), and the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam).

“So, please, fellow regional heads, don’t let the public complain because of delays in conducting the data collection,” Tito emphasised.
