Interior Minister emphasises safety in Eid homecoming exodus in Riau Islands
Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Interior Minister Tito Karnavian has emphasised the importance of safety and security during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus in 1447 Hijri in Riau Islands Province (Kepri).
Tito noted that each region in Indonesia has different characteristics, with Kepri being an archipelagic region comprising 96 per cent sea and thousands of island clusters.
“The homecoming exodus movement in Kepri will largely depend on maritime transport, so we need to thoroughly check ports and vessel fleets to ensure everything is fit for operation,” said Tito after chairing a coordination meeting with regional heads from across Indonesia at Aula Wan Seri Beni in Tanjungpinang City, Kepri, on Monday.
In addition, Tito requested that regional governments in Kepri increase security at tourist attractions during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, such as in coastal areas.
“Including traffic flow – ensure it runs safely and smoothly. Hopefully, we will achieve zero accidents during this year’s Eid exodus,” he said.
The Interior Minister also reminded regional heads across Kepri to maintain price stability during Ramadhan through Eid al-Fitr, as inflation in the region has remained relatively safe and stable so far.
The former National Police Chief also appreciated Kepri’s economic growth, which reached 6.98 per cent in 2025, making it the highest in Sumatera and third nationally.
Tito conveyed to the governor and regents/mayors in Kepri the need to promptly hold coordination meetings to ensure preparedness in the supply of food and energy ahead of Eid al-Fitr, including guaranteeing the smooth operation of the Eid homecoming exodus this year.
