Interior Minister and Six Other Ministers Sign Joint Decree on AI Utilisation in Education
The Interior Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, together with six other ministers, signed a Joint Decree (SKB) regarding guidelines for the utilisation of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) across formal, non-formal, and informal education pathways.
The signing ceremony took place at the Heritage Hall, office of the Ministry of Coordination for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
In addition to the Interior Minister, the ministers who signed the decree were the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Viada Hafid, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi, and Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji. The signing was witnessed directly by the Coordinator Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno.
In his remarks, Pratikno explained that the joint decree involves ministries responsible for education and technology. The regulation has been formulated to govern the utilisation of digital technology and artificial intelligence whilst simultaneously minimising usage risks, particularly for children.
“The uncontrolled, unregulated, and unmitigated use of digital technology has been proven academically to pose risks,” he stated in a written statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
He added that digital technology development also brings numerous challenges for adolescents and children, such as fear of missing out (FOMO), flexing, and digital bullying. On the other hand, technology and artificial intelligence also offer substantial benefits, particularly in supporting educational activities.
For this reason, according to him, the government needs to respond to these developments by formulating regulations that can serve as guidance for using technology wisely.
Pratikno hopes that the joint decree signed by the seven ministers will encourage the emergence of a generation that is wise, intelligent, and capable of utilising technology optimally. In this manner, Indonesia’s academic and educational ecosystem can develop further in terms of capital, ethics, and morality.
“So that our children are not controlled by technology, but master technology for the good. That is our objective,” he emphasised.
For information, following the signing of the joint decree, the Interior Minister and related ministers received copies of the books “Wise and Intelligent in AI” and “Building Smart and Humane Organisations” from Coordinator Minister Pratikno. The presentation of these books symbolises government support for the wise utilisation of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
