Interim BEI chief urges long-term investment in the capital market

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Acting President Director of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI), Jeffrey Hendrik, has reminded that investing in the stock market is a long-term investment instrument.

“During yesterday’s visit by the DPR and Danantara to here, the message was delivered that investing in the stock market is a long-term investment,” Jeffrey told reporters at BEI Building, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Jeffrey remains confident that the national economic fundamentals will continue to improve. “We all believe that the fundamental economy in the future will be better,” he said.

He also recalled the President’s message in his speech at the DPR Plenary Session on Wednesday (21/05), regarding the ease of doing business. “Yesterday there was also a message from Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto) that ease of doing business and licensing will also be simplified; from two years as expected to weeks,” Jeffrey said.

Through these easements, he is optimistic that positive impacts will be felt on the economy, including the Indonesian capital market in the medium to long term. “Of course that will have a positive impact on the economy, and its implications for the capital market in the medium to long term. So we are positive,” he said.

In his DPR plenary speech, President Prabowo Subianto asked the Merah Putih Cabinet ministers to improve bureaucratic governance to create a good business climate and to accelerate business licensing.

In addition, the President highlighted measures to simplify and speed up licensing processes. He specifically referred to neighbouring Malaysia, which can issue permits in two weeks, compared to Indonesia’s two years.

He also mentioned the need to streamline bureaucracy, noting that multi-layered procedures can hamper business activities in Indonesia. This bureaucracy is marked by the length of the process for issuing technical regulations up to ministry-level recommendations.

Meanwhile, closing data on Thursday afternoon (21/05), the IHSG closed down 223.56 points or 3.54 percent at 6,094.94. The LQ45 index fell 14.28 points or 2.26 percent to 616.40.

According to IDX sector index, all eleven sectors were down, with the raw materials sector the steepest at 6.96 percent, followed by the energy sector and the non-prime consumer goods sector, down 6.74 percent and 5.70 percent respectively.

Adapun, frekuensi perdagangan saham tercatat sebanyak 2.145.783 kali transaksi dengan jumlah saham yang diperdagangkan sebanyak 35,77 miliar lembar saham senilai Rp18,49 triliun. Sebanyak 88 saham naik, 663 saham menurun, dan 69 tidak bergerak nilainya.
