The hosting of Interhash 2026, with its starting line in Magelang, is expected to drive growth for micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in the city.

Liem Chie an, Chairman of Interhash 2026 in Magelang, stated on Friday that this international community gathering, attended by participants from 44 countries and held biennially, is projected to draw around 3,000 attendees, mostly from Malaysia and Australia.

To liven up the city, the Interhash activities will be divided across 4-5 locations, including Tuksonga and Becici. The organisers hope that this event will have a positive impact on the local economy, especially for UMKM and homestay managers.

“As a resident of Magelang, I want to bring Interhash to our city. Previously, Interhash was held in Borobudur in 2012. This time, I am exploring locations such as Prambanan and Mendut so that the event can be more evenly distributed,” he said.

Previously, Magelang Mayor Damar Prasetyono stated that Magelang is once again demonstrating its role as a dynamic service city by hosting the opening of Interhash 2026, an international event participated in by entrants from 44 countries.

He expressed the Magelang City Government’s gratitude and highest appreciation to all parties who have contributed to enabling this international-scale event to be held in the “heart of Java”.

He noted that this trust is seen as proof that Magelang is capable of hosting various important agendas throughout the year.

“From the beginning of the year to the end, we will never stop presenting various activities in Magelang City. This aligns with Magelang’s character as a service city and a trading city that continues to move dynamically,” he said.

He explained that the series of Interhash 2026 activities will begin on 8 May at 3:00 PM WIB, with the gathering point at Bakorwil, followed by a city tour and finishing at the Tri Bhakti Building.

This event is believed to have a significant impact on the regional economic circulation. The presence of thousands of participants and international delegates is predicted to bring blessings to business actors, particularly in the UMKM, tourism, and services sectors.

“This is an extraordinary momentum for Magelang City to become a city of memories and a historic destination. We are optimistic that in the future, Magelang will advance further with the many national and international-scale activities,” he said.
