Interested in Trading on the Commodity Futures Exchange? Understand These Two Things First

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — PT Doo Financial Futures President Director Ariston Tjendra said there are several things traders should understand before trading on a commodity futures exchange.

First, traders must familiarise themselves with the products and transaction mechanisms on the exchange. This is important so that they understand how to seek profits in commodity futures trading.

“Then they also need to know whether a broker is legally licensed. This affects how funds are held, because funds at licensed brokers are kept in segregated accounts,” he said at the Road to CNBC Indonesia Awards 2026 ‘Best Futures Companies’ on Thursday (29 October 2026).

He explained that trading behaviour has changed amid uncertain global geopolitical conditions. Many traders are no longer holding assets for as long as they would under normal circumstances.

“Because volatility is high and prices are moving upwards, many clients do not hold positions for long—perhaps only for a matter of days,” he said.

According to Tjendra, gold is currently the most popular commodity futures asset among traders, accounting for 90% of their interest. The remainder choose forex and foreign currencies.

“I don’t know why there is so little interest in oil. When it comes to commodities, they go for gold. In forex, it’s euro-US dollar and Singapore dollar-US dollar,” he concluded.
