Jakarta (ANTARA) - Train travel continues to evolve in response to increasingly diverse customer needs. Between January and September 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded growth in several services offering unique travel experiences, including the Panoramic Train and Compartment Suites.

During the first nine months of 2026, the Panoramic Train served 158,445 passengers, a 59.40 per cent increase compared to 99,403 passengers during the same period in 2025. In the same period, Compartment Suites served 42,694 passengers, growing by approximately 48 per cent compared to 28,847 passengers from January–September 2025.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this growth demonstrates that customers are increasingly considering the in-journey experience as part of their service choice.

“Panoramic and Compartment Suites have different characters, but both show the same pattern, which is the increasing interest of customers in more specific travel experiences. Some choose to enjoy the panorama along the route, while others require more private travel space,” said Anne.

The Panoramic Train provides a wider view of the landscape along the journey through large-sized windows. Meanwhile, Compartmeant Suites offer individual cabins with more private space for passengers on several intercity routes.

This development coincides with high levels of public mobility and national tourism activities. Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics recorded 10.58 million international tourist visits throughout January–August 2026, an increase of approximately 5.38 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

Anne noted that the railway network connecting various cities provides space for KAI to develop service options based on travel characteristics, whether for tourism, business travel, or journeys with specific preferences for privacy and comfort.

“Intercity travel now has increasingly diverse segments. Therefore, we are directing our service development towards different customer needs, in terms of experience, space, travel time, and travel purpose,” said Anne.

In addition to Panoramic and Compartment Suites, KAI continues to develop a variety of services with different characters, including the Nusantara Explorer and other services that adapt to the public’s travel needs. This development is part of KAI’s strategy to interpret changing travel patterns while expanding service options for customers.

“Customer data serves as one of the foundations for KAI to see which services are growing and what needs are beginning to form. From there, we can prepare travel products that are increasingly relevant to the patterns of public mobility,” Anne concluded.
