Intention Readings for Dzulhijjah 1447 H Fasting and Their Meanings
During the month of Dzulhijjah, there are three types of sunnah fasts performed between the 1st and 9th of Dzulhijjah: fasting from the 1st to the 7th, the fasting of 8 Dzulhijjah (Tarwiyah fast), and the fasting of 9 Dzulhijjah (Arafah fast).
Fasting Schedule for 2026
Based on the results of the isbat session and the 2026 Hijri Calendar from the Islamic Affairs Directorate of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, 1 Dzulhijjah 1447 H/2026 M falls on Monday, 18 May 2026. This means the sunnah fasts for 1-9 Dzulhijjah 2026 will be observed as follows:

Intention for Dzulhijjah Fasting
Quoting from the NU Online website, here are the intentions for the 1st-7th of Dzulhijjah, the 8th of Dzulhijjah (Tarwiyah fast), and the 9th of Dzulhijjah (Arafah fast):
- Intention for 1-7 Dzulhijjah Fasting
‘Nawaitu shauma hâdzal yaumi ’an adâ’i syahri dzil hijjah sunnatan lillâhi ta’âlâ.’
Meaning: ‘I intend to perform the sunnah fast of the month of Dzulhijjah today for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.’
- Intention for Tarwiyah Fast (8 Dzulhijjah)
‘Nawaitu shauma hâdzal yaumi ’an adâ’i tarwiyata sunnatan lillâhi ta’âlâ.’
Meaning: ‘I intend to perform the sunnah Tarwiyah fast today for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.’
- Intention for Arafah Fast (9 Dzulhijjah)
‘Nawaitu shauma hâdzal yaumi ’an adâ’i arafata sunnatan lillâhi ta’âlâ.’
Meaning: ‘I intend to perform the sunnah Arafah fast today for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.’
Countdown to Eid al-Adha 2026
The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia has officially established the start of Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijriah on 18 May 2026. Consequently, 10 Dzulhijjah 1447 H, or Eid al-Adha, will fall on 27 May 2026.
The isbat session to determine the start of 1 Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijriah was held at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (17/5/2026). The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, personally led the session.
‘Based on the results of the calculation (hisab) and the sighting of the hilal, it has been agreed that 1 Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026. Therefore, Eid al-Adha on 10 Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijriah falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,’ stated the Minister.
