The South Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) is targeting every neighbourhood unit (RT) to have one biopore as part of intensifying the “Keep Jakarta Clean, Sort Waste” campaign, as an effort to address the limited capacity of the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). “To support this programme, the South Jakarta City Government requests that every RT have at least one large biopore hole,” said Deputy Mayor of South Jakarta Ali Murthadho at the South Jakarta City Hall Office on Thursday. He stated that the campaign is expected to become an ingrained value in society, so that waste issues can be resolved starting from the household environment. Moreover, he added, the South Jakarta Environmental Office has been intensifying the organic waste management programme through the large biopore system and modern composting. According to him, if around 6,000 RTs in South Jakarta implement the system, organic waste handling can be carried out effectively through the zero organic waste concept. “We also urge government offices to do the same. For the RT scope, I think with the spirit of mutual cooperation and public understanding of waste issues, they will carry it out,” said Ali. “We must strengthen the function of waste banks so that the public can sort and bring inorganic waste there,” Ali added. Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Environmental Office, Dedy Setiono, said that the waste management programme through large biopores and modern composting has been implemented in several locations, including Mampang Prapatan District and Tegal Parang Ward. The programme is expected to reduce waste disposal by up to 50% by August 2026. In fact, by 2027, South Jakarta is targeted to no longer dispose of waste to the TPST Bantargebang. “The fastest waste handling is to resolve it directly on site, so it no longer needs to be transported far to Bantargebang. Hopefully this innovation runs well,” Dedy stated.
