The morning roll call at the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) headquarters turned suspicious when the detachment commander noticed an incomplete lineup. Two names were missing. A check revealed they were at the clinic. One of them had severe burns on his hand and face. This individual ultimately became the main suspect in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

This information was conveyed by Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Coordinator of the Subcommission on Human Rights Enforcement and Commissioner for Mediation at Komnas HAM, to detikX. Previously, Komnas HAM had requested information from the Commander of the TNI Military Police Centre (Danpuspom) TNI, Major General Yusri Nuryanto.

The suspected involvement, Pramono said, stemmed from the sulphuric acid chemical splashing back onto the perpetrator.

“It turns out that among those who threw it, some of the liquid splashed back. So, it hit his body. That’s why, when questioned, he couldn’t deny it. Something like that,” Pramono explained.

From there, the investigation continued. One name led to others. A day after the acid attack on Andrie, the perpetrators were handled by the Bais TNI Headquarters Detachment (Denma).

Then, on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, the Commander of Denma Bais TNI handed over the case, including the suspects, to the Indonesian National Armed Forces Military Police Centre. On the same day, the TNI Military Police Centre held a press conference announcing the initials of four suspects.

Regarding the type of liquid used, Pramono said his side was also tracing the origin of the substance. He mentioned initial information identifying it as H₂SO₄ (sulphuric acid), with further confirmation requested from the TNI Military Police Centre.

From the investigation, the TNI Military Police Centre stated that the chemical liquid used by the perpetrators came from a workshop within the Bais environment. The workshop stored various chemicals, including battery fluid, which was then mixed.

“Utilising items available in the workshop,” Pramono quoted the Military Police Centre’s response to detikX.

Pramono noted that the four alleged perpetrators came from two branches: the Navy and the Air Force, with three from one branch and one from the other. However, detailed explanations on the breakdown were not yet available.

A house on Jalan Panglima Polim III in South Jakarta is suspected to be the initial location and getaway spot for the acid attack perpetrators on Andrie Yunus.

Pramono explained that, based on the meeting with the Military Police Centre, the four individuals acted as executors and supervisors at the scene. One was identified as the motorbike driver carrying another perpetrator tasked with throwing the liquid.

The identities of the perpetrators were also revealed only partially. Three of the four suspects are known to be officers, with the highest rank being captain. They are identified as Captain NDB, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and one non-commissioned officer, Sergeant ES.

From information obtained by detikX, some of the perpetrators are suspected to be named Budhi Hariyanto Widhi Cahyono, Muhammad Akbar Kuddus, and Edi Sudarko.

Meanwhile, the police proceeded with their own line of inquiry, separate from the internal Bais TNI process. The investigation involved tracing CCTV footage from several points and collecting evidence from the scene. From there, a chain of suspected involvement began to form. The police had gathered several leads pointing to the alleged perpetrators but had not yet reached the detention stage.

Polda Metro Jaya reported two suspected suspects with initials BAC and MAK. Although two initials have been revealed, the police have not ruled out the possibility that the number of alleged perpetrators exceeds four.

“However, from the investigation results, we do not rule out the possibility that there are more than four perpetrators, as per the initial information we provided to fellow media,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

A detikX source explained that before the press conference, the police traced CCTV footage. There is suspicion that three perpetrators departed from a house on Jalan Panglima Polim III in South Jakarta. The detikX team also obtained CCTV footage of the perpetrators’ initial movements in the area around 4:28 PM on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

The police then visited the two-storey house with off-white paint on Panglima Polim III. There, they found a motorbike suspected to have been used by the main perpetrator (a black Honda Beat). The police also interrogated a civilian who was the house guard. From there, various developmental information was obtained regarding activities up to the house’s responsible party.

Regarding whether the house had been used as a planning space for the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, the police refrained from denying or providing further details. When confirmed by detikX, the Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, only explained the current authority for handling the case lies with the TNI Military Police Centre unit.

“The investigators’ (police) authority stops there because the case has been handed over. Please communicate with the party currently handling this,” Budi Hermanto told detikX.

CCTV Captures Perpetrators’ Movements

On the night of Thursday, 12 March 2026, Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs of KontraS, became the target of an acid liquid attack while riding his motorbike on Jalan Salemba I, Senen, Central Jakarta. The attack immediately caused Andrie to feel a burning sensation.

Based on evidence obtained by detikX from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), the chemical substance is seen penetrating and damaging Andrie’s white singlet underneath. Its colour was no longer white, mixed with Andrie’s blood. Additionally, the right side of his backpack, the motorbike’s speedometer cover, and Andrie’s helmet were also affected.
