PT PLN Batam has been selected as a nominee for the TOP CSR Awards 2026. As an integrated electricity provider operating from upstream to downstream, PLN Batam participated in the judging presentation session on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

During the judging session, Corporate Secretary Rudi Antono stated that the company manages business activities ranging from generation, transmission, and distribution to electricity services in the Batam, Rempang, and Galang regions. The company also operates several Mobile Power Plants (MPP) across various regions in Indonesia, including the 120 MW Tanjung Uncang Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTGU) and various gas-fired plants (PLTG and PLTMG).

“In conducting its business activities, PT PLN Batam also implements Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. These programmes are integrated with the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programmes,” said Rudi Antono.

According to Antono, CSR and ESG are positioned as vital components of the company’s corporate governance and long-term business strategy. From a governance perspective, the company has established a Sustainability Committee via Board of Directors Decree. CSR management falls under the Corporate Secretariat, with the President Director serving as the supervisory director.

The company has also strengthened principles of transparency, business ethics, and anti-corruption through the implementation of the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP), supported by internal policies such as anti-fraud, gratification control, whistleblowing systems, and compliance with the SNI ISO 37001:2016 standard.

In strategic decision-making, PLN Batam integrates sustainability risks into its investments and business expansions. This includes the development of a 42 MWp floating solar PV project in Batam, which supports the national renewable energy mix targets and the journey towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Such steps demonstrate that sustainability is a key consideration in maintaining power system reliability and enhancing investment attractiveness.

PLN Batam’s CSR strategy is based on materiality analysis, considering the business impact on the environment and society, stakeholder interests, and long-term risks and opportunities. Key material issues include the reliability of power supply, energy transition, energy efficiency, equitable access to electricity, the environmental impact of power plant operations, community acceptance, and regulatory compliance. All CSR strategies are aligned with the company’s core business as an electricity provider and the direction of its Long-Term Corporate Plan (RJPP).

Implementation is carried out through community empowerment programmes based on energy, strengthening education and productive economies, supporting social infrastructure related to electricity, and strengthening stakeholder relations. PLN Batam also maintains a sustainability roadmap divided into short, medium, and long-term targets. In the short term, the focus is on plant and network efficiency, strengthening environmental and social risk management, and integrating ESG indicators into decision-making. In the long term, the company aims to contribute to Net Zero Emissions and the development of a greener, more reliable, and sustainable Batam electricity system.

Notable CSR programmes include:

  • The ‘Sahabat Terang’ Scholarship programme, providing higher education access for high-achieving students from underprivileged families to improve local human resource quality.

  • Economic empowerment programmes for MSMEs, women’s groups, and local communities, such as the MSME Empowerment Workshop, the development of the Batik Moleqie Ngah Jaya MSME, and Mangrove Planting in the Batam Botanical Garden to support environmental conservation.

  • Social facility support for underprivileged communities, including assistance for places of worship, educational facilities, and residential environments.

“The principles of CSR and ESG have been internalised into PT PLN Batam’s work culture through company policies, socialisation, and the integration of sustainability values into daily work processes,” added Rudi Antono.

PT PLN Batam is also developing flagship CSR programmes classified as Creating Shared Value (CSV), which provide both social benefits and strategic value to the company and society. One such programme is the development of Biofloc Ponds and Community Waste Banks in collaboration with the Taburosi Waste Bank Women’s Group, promoting environment-based economic empowerment through waste management and productive aquaculture. This programme enhances community economic capacity while supporting food security and sustainable environmental management. As part of its commitment to impact-based CSR, PT PLN Batam has conducted Social Return on Investment (SROI) measurements.
