Integrated People’s School 76 Mimika Currently Educates 58 Students
Timika (ANTARA) – Integrated People’s School 76 Mimika, in Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, currently supports 58 students from various parts of the region.
Headteacher Ajeng Wulandari said in Timika on Saturday that the students came from several districts in Mimika, including Kuala Kencana, Mimika Baru, Kwamki Narama, East Mimika and Far West Mimika.
“The students are divided into six study groups and are enrolled at junior and senior secondary levels,” Ajeng said at an event marking the school’s first anniversary.
She said the school’s operations and student support were provided by 10 teachers, four dormitory supervisors and 12 student carers. The support staff also included 13 people, among them cooks, cleaners and security guards.
“The People’s School follows the national curriculum, adapted to a multi-entry and multi-exit approach. This means students can enrol and graduate according to their individual learning pace,” she said.
Students are selected for the People’s School using social data rather than academic tests. Under the integrated support model, their physical health and character development have gradually shown significant positive changes.
Their discipline and self-confidence have grown, as demonstrated by their active participation in various inter-school competitions.
“Some have won awards, including the overall district championship in athletics; others have been selected as members of the provincial and district flag-raising teams. They have also achieved success in arts and sports,” she said.
Alongside classroom education, students live in a safe and orderly residential environment. Their basic needs are met, including nutritious meals, regular health monitoring and services, and round-the-clock support.
“With guidance from their carers, students develop a range of life skills, receive moral education and emotional support, enabling them to grow into independent, strong and well-rounded individuals who are ready for the future,” she said.
The establishment of Integrated People’s School 76 Mimika represents a shared commitment to securing children’s rights to a decent life and education. The school also aims to break the cycle of poverty through education.
The People’s School is designed as a safe, empowering environment for children from disadvantaged households in the lowest two deciles, helping them become agents of change. Integrated People’s School 76 Mimika is a pilot school that was inaugurated and began operating on 10 October 2025.
For now, the school is temporarily based in the Wisma Atlet flats in the former XX Papua National Sports Week complex, on the main SP2 road in Timika Jaya sub-district.
