Integrated information system installed at Ministry of Finance
JAKARTA (JP): Deutsche Gesellshaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) of Germany is developing an integrated information system that will link all monetary authorities throughout the country with the Ministry of Finance.
Minister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad told reporters here yesterday that the system, which will process all financial data produced by monetary authorities, will help his ministry in formulating policies.
"With the centralized data, our ministry will be able to formulate better financial policies in the future," he said after officially opening a seminar on integrated information systems for public administration.
The meeting was organized by the ministry and GTZ at the Borobudur Inter-continental Hotel.
Mar'ie said the project for the information system will involve networks in the directorate generals of his ministry, local administrations, Bank Indonesia (the central bank) and economy-related ministries.
He declined to give details on the investments for the project, saying that costs are still being discussed.
Budget
Dono Iskandar Djojosubroto, chief of the ministry's agency for financial analysis, said the planned system will be useful for the formulation of state budgets.
The system will provide data on the developments of oil and gas prices, tax collection, customs and excise revenues, non-tax receipts, foreign aid and foreign exchange developments, he said.
The government collects revenues from payments of oil companies operating in Indonesia under production sharing contracts, taxation, import duties and foreign aid.
"On taxation, for example, the system will cover progress in tax collection, the number of taxpayers, implementation of tax regulations and improvement in companies' businesses," Dono said.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Jusuf Anwar said the system will also be linked to the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) and stock exchanges.
Both Mar'ie and Jusuf said the ministry's current cooperation with GTZ is an embryo for the development of a fully integrated system in all the ministries in the future.
Mar'ie added that his ministry chose the German company to set up the system because it has installed an integrated system for his ministry on taxation.
Collection of taxes in Indonesia is based on self assessment.(fhp)
