JAKARTA — There remains significant room to expand Indonesians’ access to insurance services, given the low level of insurance inclusion compared with insurance literacy. According to the 2025 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK), the insurance literacy index reached 45.45 per cent, while the inclusion index was just 28.50 per cent.

This was among the considerations behind PT Asuransi Jiwa Generali Indonesia’s decision to expand its distribution network by opening a Generali Evergrow Agency office in North Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten. The office, inaugurated on Friday (23 October 2026), is expected to improve public access to financial advice and insurance protection services.

Generali Indonesia President Director and Chief Executive Rebecca Tan said expanding the agency network was one of the company’s strategies for reaching more people. As well as providing access to insurance products, the new office will create opportunities to develop marketing personnel and professional financial consultants.

“As we mark 18 years alongside Indonesian families, we want to be closer to the public through a stronger, more accessible distribution network,” Rebecca said in a written statement on Monday (26 October 2026).

Rebecca said marketing personnel played a role in helping people understand their protection needs and plan their finances. The expansion of the agency network is also expected to broaden insurance education amid the gap between literacy levels and the uptake of protection products.

The new agency office has opened as insurance business through the agency distribution channel continues to grow. Generali Indonesia recorded a 44 per cent year-on-year increase in new-business sales through its agency channel in 2025.

That growth was supported by a network of thousands of licensed marketing personnel, one of the company’s distribution channels. Generali said public demand for protection and financial planning had also contributed to the development of its agency business.

Rebecca said expanding the distribution network was not only about growing the company’s business, but also about improving public access to financial advice. Through its marketing personnel, the company aims to provide guidance on choosing protection that suits each person’s needs and financial circumstances.

In addition to expanding its agency network, Generali Indonesia is developing sharia-compliant life insurance products. One is GEN Syariah Perlindungan Aman, which offers an insurance benefit, additional benefits in certain circumstances and a waqf feature.

The product provides for an increase in the insurance benefit of up to 250 per cent and an additional benefit of 110 per cent if a participant dies while performing the hajj or umrah pilgrimage. The life cover can also be supplemented with health insurance to reimburse hospital treatment costs, subject to the policy terms.

The opening of the Generali Evergrow Agency office was attended by company executives, including Rebecca Tan, Director and Chief Agency Officer Jutany Japit, and Chief Corporate Solution Officer Gilbert Deddy Naibaho. A number of agents and financial consultants also attended.

Rebecca said improving access to insurance needed to go hand in hand with public understanding of the benefits and need for protection. The company hopes that expanding its agency network will help people obtain advice and consider protection options suited to their needs.
