I deplore the Salami instant noodles advertisement on
television for its jingle taken from Indonesia Tanah Air Beta.
This song embodies the pride of the Indonesian nation. Moreover,
it is one of the national songs often sung by elementary and
junior high school students.

It is feared that many Indonesians who have for a long time
admired the song by Pranajaya, who used the theme of national
unity, will be disappointed after hearing the song on television
used for promoting an instant noodle product.

The advertisement may boost the sales of Salami instant
noodles, but it is doubtful if consumers are still willing to buy
the product if the advertisement uses a national song for
commercial purposes. This song should be used as a public service
to foster national unity, in a noncommercial promotion. There are
many Indonesian song composers who are able to make jingles for
commercial purposes.
